Mr. Dilip Dixit was with Maharashtra Sales Tax Department for 32 years. During this period, he worked for seven years as Deputy Secretary [Taxation]. He was responsible for framing and evaluating proposals relating to various State taxes and policy issues. As Additional Commissioner of Sales Tax, he drafted the Maharashtra VAT Act. At the time of introduction of VAT and thereafter at the time of implementation of automation, he was one of the key officials involved in the re-organisation of the Sales Tax Department. Mr. Dixit was instrumental in forming a Research and Analysis unit for identifying the improvements needed in the administration of tax. He has represented the Sales Tax Department in interactions with Trade and Industry Associations. He has also represented Government of Maharashtra and other State Governments for the last 14 years on the Empowered Committee set up by the Central Government for introduction and monitoring of VAT and the proposed Goods and Services Tax.
